Desiccant for Compressed Air Dryers

Desiccant dryers use activated alumina and molecular sieve to reach −40 °C or −70 °C pressure dew point in compressed air. We supply both, plus ceramic ball supports, in the bead sizes used by heatless and heated dryers.

01The challenge

Why does compressed air need a desiccant dryer?

Compressed air leaves the compressor saturated with water; as it cools, the water condenses, corroding pipes, damaging tools and spoiling paint, food and pharmaceutical products. Refrigerated dryers stop at about +3 °C dew point, so applications that need −40 °C or −70 °C use adsorption dryers.

Our solution

  • Grade: activated alumina 3–5 mm for −40 °C pressure dew point; add a 4A molecular sieve layer, or a full sieve bed, for −70 °C.
  • Regeneration: heatless dryers use about 15–20% dry purge air; heated and blower-purge dryers use hot air; desiccant is typically replaced every 3–5 years.
  • Outlet spec: pressure dew point −40 °C (ISO 8573-1 Class 2) or −70 °C (Class 1).

09FAQ

Compressed air drying FAQ

Can’t find your answer? Ask our sales engineer.

Activated alumina or molecular sieve for my dryer?

Activated alumina is the standard for −40 °C pressure dew point. For −70 °C, use 4A molecular sieve, alone or as a layer above the alumina.

What dew point can a desiccant dryer reach?

Typically −40 °C with activated alumina and −70 °C with molecular sieve, matching ISO 8573-1 Classes 2 and 1.

How often should dryer desiccant be replaced?

Usually every 3–5 years, or sooner if oil carry-over, liquid water or dust reduce capacity and the dew point starts to rise.

Can you supply desiccant for other brands of dryer?

Yes. Send the dryer model or tower volume and the current bead size, and we match the grade and fill quantity.

Refilling a desiccant dryer?

Send the dryer model, tower volume and target dew point — we reply with a grade recommendation and quote within 24 hours.
