Where is CO2 Adsorbent Molecular Sieve used?
CO2 adsorbent molecular sieve is used in PSA / VPSA units that upgrade biogas to biomethane and in adsorption-based carbon capture.
Biogas upgrading
Removes CO₂ so biomethane meets grid-injection or vehicle-fuel specs.
Landfill gas
Raises methane content for power or pipeline use.
Carbon capture
Separates CO₂ from process or flue gas streams.
Natural gas CO₂ removal
Small-scale CO₂ polishing where solvents are impractical.
CO2 Adsorbent Molecular Sieve vs other adsorbents: which do you need?
Choose this sieve over standard 13X when CO₂ must be separated from CH₄ or N₂ by pressure swing: it combines high selectivity with CO₂ that releases readily under reduced pressure.
| Option | Selectivity for CO₂ | Regeneration |
|---|---|---|
| CO₂ adsorbent (this product) | High vs CH₄ and N₂ | Pressure / vacuum swing |
| Standard 13X | High, but CO₂ held strongly | Often needs heat to desorb fully |
| Amine scrubbing | Very high | Heated solvent, liquid handling |
What is CO2 Adsorbent Molecular Sieve?
CO2 adsorbent molecular sieve is a synthetic aluminosilicate based on an optimised 13X framework that preferentially adsorbs CO₂ over CH₄ and N₂, with a large difference in loading between adsorption and desorption pressure.
Type
Optimised 13X-type zeolite
Adsorbs
CO₂ (preferentially)
Passes
CH₄, N₂
How does CO2 Adsorbent Molecular Sieve work?
CO₂, with its strong quadrupole, is attracted to the zeolite cations far more than CH₄ or N₂; at feed pressure it loads the bed, and at low pressure it is released.
- Pretreated gas enters under pressure — H₂S and most moisture removed upstream.
- CO₂ is adsorbed — methane-rich or CO₂-lean gas leaves as product.
- Pressure or vacuum is released — CO₂ desorbs and the bed is ready again.
When should you use CO2 Adsorbent Molecular Sieve?
Use it when you need solvent-free CO₂ removal in a PSA / VPSA unit, especially at biogas and landfill-gas scale.
- Target is biomethane quality or a defined CO₂ limit.
- No water or amine handling wanted on site.
- Feed H₂S and moisture can be removed upstream.
How do you regenerate CO2 Adsorbent Molecular Sieve?
It is regenerated every cycle by pressure or vacuum swing; thermal reactivation is only needed if the bed has taken up water or other strongly held contaminants.

[Temperature] °C, dry purge gas
