Where is Silver Zeolite Hydrogen Getter used?
Silver zeolite hydrogen getter is used in the vacuum interlayer of cryogenic tanks and high-vacuum insulated containers to keep hydrogen from degrading the vacuum.
Cryogenic storage tanks
Vacuum space of LNG, liquid nitrogen, oxygen and argon tanks.
Multi-layer insulation vessels
High-vacuum MLI containers and dewars.
Vacuum-insulated pipes
Keeps hydrogen partial pressure low over the service life.
Silver Zeolite Hydrogen Getter vs other adsorbents: which do you need?
Choose silver zeolite when you want a non-flammable hydrogen getter that needs no activation; palladium oxide is dosed at a much lower weight, and 5A or 13X sieves adsorb other residual gases rather than hydrogen.
| Material | Captures | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Silver zeolite (this product) | H₂ | Non-flammable, no activation, dose 10–15× PdO by weight |
| Palladium oxide | H₂ | Lower dose, higher material cost |
| 5A / 13X molecular sieve | Residual gases and moisture at cryogenic temperature | Used alongside a hydrogen getter |
What is Silver Zeolite Hydrogen Getter?
Silver zeolite hydrogen getter is a zeolite carrying at least 40 % silver, whose silver ions take up hydrogen that slowly outgasses from steel and insulation into a vacuum space.

How does Silver Zeolite Hydrogen Getter work?
Carbon steel, stainless steel and insulation materials release hydrogen slowly over years; the active silver ions react with this hydrogen and keep it from building up in the vacuum.
- Getter is placed in the vacuum interlayer — usually in a permeable container.
- Outgassed H₂ reaches the getter — silver ions absorb it.
- Vacuum stays high — insulation performance and boil-off rate are maintained.
When should you use Silver Zeolite Hydrogen Getter?
Use it in any vacuum-insulated cryogenic vessel where hydrogen outgassing would otherwise raise pressure in the vacuum space and increase heat leak.
- A non-flammable getter is preferred for safety.
- No activation step is wanted during assembly.
- Dosage of 10–15 times the palladium oxide weight fits the available space.
Does Silver Zeolite Hydrogen Getter need activation or regeneration?
No activation is required before use, and it is not regenerated in service; it is replaced when the vacuum space is reopened.
