Where is VOC Adsorption Zeolite used?
VOC adsorption zeolite is used to capture volatile organic compounds from industrial exhaust, either in fixed beds or as the adsorbent in concentrator systems ahead of thermal oxidation.
Coating & painting lines
Captures solvent vapours such as toluene, xylene and ethyl acetate.
Printing & packaging
Removes ketones, esters and alcohols from dryer exhaust.
Petrochemical & pharmaceutical
Treats benzene, styrene, hexane and cyclohexane emissions.
Concentrator + oxidiser systems
Concentrates dilute VOCs before RTO / catalytic oxidation.
VOC Adsorption Zeolite vs other adsorbents: which do you need?
Choose hydrophobic zeolite over activated carbon when exhaust is humid, when regeneration needs high temperatures, or when fire risk must be minimised.
| Adsorbent | Humidity tolerance | Fire risk | Regeneration |
|---|---|---|---|
| VOC zeolite (this product) | High (hydrophobic) | Non-flammable | Hot air, repeated cycles |
| Activated carbon | Capacity drops at high RH | Combustible | Steam or hot gas, limited temperature |
| 13X molecular sieve | Low — adsorbs water first | Non-flammable | Not suited to humid VOC streams |
What is VOC Adsorption Zeolite?
VOC adsorption zeolite is a hydrophobic synthetic zeolite with a three-dimensional medium-micropore channel system that adsorbs organic molecules smaller than about 0.55 nm while largely ignoring water vapour.
Type
Hydrophobic, high-silica zeolite
Adsorbs
Benzene, toluene, xylene, styrene, hexane, acetone, ethyl acetate, alcohols, phenol, aldehydes
Key property
Low water uptake, stable to high temperature
How does VOC Adsorption Zeolite work?
VOC molecules enter the medium micropores and are held by van der Waals forces, while the hydrophobic framework keeps water from occupying the adsorption sites.
- Exhaust passes through the adsorbent — bed or concentrator wheel.
- VOCs are adsorbed in the micropores — clean air is discharged.
- Hot air desorbs the VOCs — a small, concentrated stream goes to the oxidiser or recovery unit.
When should you use VOC Adsorption Zeolite?
Use it when exhaust is humid, VOC concentration is low to medium, and the system must run many adsorption and hot-air regeneration cycles.
- Target molecules are smaller than about 0.55 nm.
- Relative humidity is too high for activated carbon to perform well.
- Fire safety or high-temperature regeneration is required.
How do you regenerate VOC Adsorption Zeolite?
Regenerate it by passing hot air through the saturated adsorbent so the VOCs desorb into a smaller, concentrated stream for oxidation or recovery.
